At the 2021 Convention of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorney’s, Lear Werts partner, Todd Werts, was awarded the President’s Award by MATA President Mark Moreland. Todd received the award for his many years of service to MATA, in particular his work with the MATA Amicus and CLE Committees.
MATA is a non-profit, professional organization consisting of approximately
1,400 trial attorneys in Missouri, most of whom represent the citizens of the state of Missouri. For over fifty years, MATA lawyers have vigilantly worked to preserve the Seventh Amendment’s right to trial by jury and to protect Missouri citizens from injustice. In doing so, MATA strives to promote the administration of justice, to preserve the adversary system, and to apply its knowledge and experience in the field of law to protect the rights of individuals.
The MATA Amicus Committee predominately files briefs in the Supreme Court of Missouri supporting the positions taken the by the clients of MATA members. But MATA sometimes also files in cases at the Missouri Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Todd has been the principal drafter or consulted on briefs filed at each of these levels.
The MATA CLE Committee is principally tasked with planning the continuing education program for the organization’s annual convention.
Todd was very pleasantly surprised by the award and Mr. Moreland’s kind words during the presentation.
