Tony Meyer has Article Published in the Journal of the Missouri Bar

Lear Werts attorney Anthony Meyer recently published an article in the Journal of the Missouri Bar titled “Standing in Missouri’s Federal and State Courts.” The article is a short summary of standing doctrine – which refers to what a plaintiff must show, usually an injury, in order to bring a lawsuit – and the similarities and differences in the application of standing doctrine in the state’s two different court systems.  “I am happy to publish this article in the Journal of the Missouri Bar,” said Meyer. “Too often ‘standing’ is treated the same in both federal and state courts. While that approach works for most lawsuits because the question of whether a plaintiff has been harmed will have an obvious answer, that approach misses the fundamental differences between federal and state courts. The federal courts are meant to be limited, in accordance with the federal constitution, while state courts are meant to be open to all disputes.”  Meyer concluded: “I hope this publication will be a useful resource for attorneys and judges across Missouri.”  The article can be found here.
